WEL Industries, Inc. is an FDA approved California corporation.

It was incorporated in 1972 by Dr. Lewis A. Wise M.D., an anesthesiologist in Santa Monica, to manufacture and distribute a disposable Yankauer suction tube.

During the change-over to disposable instruments in the O.R., Dr. Wise observed first-hand the problems with the all plastic disposable suction tubes:  

·         The manufacturing process uses a tapered core pin decreasing suction at the tip.

·         The holes in the tip are funnel-shaped allowing debris to clog the tip leaving the surgeon no alternative but to throw away that tube and replace it with a new one.

·         The vent hole in the handle creates un-needed noise in the operating theatre

Dr. Wise designed the WEL suction tubes using a malleable aluminum shaft pressure-fitted into a polypropylene handle. This allows a full ¼” inside diameter maintaining maximum suction all the way to the tip.

The five holes in the tip are straight bored. Any debris going in the holes will go into the tube. Anything on the outside can be wiped off in seconds.

The positive controlled on/off valve gives full flow when on and cuts the suction completely in the off position -with no distracting noise.
